The UNE 77270 standard, already published and available in English, has reached an important milestone. Now, an initiative is being launched to secure funding for the next step: advancing the standard to become a European Standard (EN). The goal is to raise funds to initiate the work, and the AMIGO association is leading the charge in gathering support from individuals and organizations interested in this project.
The idea is to create a Working Group within the Technical Committee TC264 on Air Quality, a space where experts can collaborate on this important topic. Italy is also working on a national standard on the same issue, creating a unique opportunity for collaboration. This initiative follows the model of Working Group 41 (WG41), which was established following the publication of a similar Dutch standard.
The Funding Breakdown: Two Phases
The estimated budget is divided into two phases:
Phase 1: Support and Management Services until CEN Voting Outcome (€3,025)
This phase includes all the necessary tasks performed by the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE) from receiving AMIGO’s request to the outcome of the voting by CEN members on the new Work Item Proposal. This will involve:
- Normative landscape analysis: A brief study of existing standards and committees in CEN related to the proposal, aiming to identify future interested committees and avoid overlap with other European standards in progress.
- Development of the Work Item Proposal (WI Proposal): The preparation and submission of the proposal to CEN/TC 264 Air Quality.
- Proposal presentation: The proposal will be presented to the Chairperson and Secretariat of CEN/TC 264 for the creation of a new Working Group, with AMIGO leading and appointing the Convenor.
- Support and follow-up: Continued support throughout the process, from proposal submission to the voting outcome, along with answering any questions and resolving any issues.
Phase 2: Support for Standard Drafting (€9,075).
This phase will only begin if the outcome of the voting is positive. It will span up to 36 months, leading to the final EN standard publication. Services included are:
- Professional Standardization Support (PPS): UNE will provide ongoing support, as the sole National Standardization Body responsible for ensuring the Convenor’s responsibilities are met according to CEN-CENELEC regulations.
- Training and guidance: For the Convenor of the Working Group, covering topics like CEN/CENELEC’s standardization system, procedural rules, and the preparation of draft standards.
- Management of the Working Group: Support in managing documentation, organizing meetings, and supporting the drafting of the standards, including the necessary formatting and revisions.
The total cost for this initiative is €12,100. However, if the first phase does not end successfully, there is no need to go to the second phase. Your support will be key in bringing this important standard to an international level.
There is the possibility to make an ISO standard, with the same cost approximately. The group is still discussing what to do.
