In a bid to enhance odour assessment processes and foster collaboration, the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) of Victoria, Australia announces the much-anticipated Victoria EPA Guidance for Assessing Odour – Review Workshop. Scheduled for October 25, 2023, this event promises to be a significant milestone in refining odour evaluation practices.
Hosted at the EPA Centre for Applied Sciences in Macleod, Victoria, the workshop will gather experts, members, and non-members alike, under one roof. The primary focus is to reflect on the effectiveness of EPA's existing Guidance for Assessing Odour (Publication 1883), initially introduced in May 2022. Over the 18 months of its application, user feedback has indicated opportunities for improvement.
The workshop's agenda is thoughtfully structured, delving into the intricacies of Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 risk assessment tools, analyzing their success rates and addressing areas of improvement. Notably, there will be dedicated discussions on accounting for cumulative sources, an essential aspect in the assessment of odour impact.
Participants will be offered an exclusive tour of EPA Facilities, including emergency response capabilities and odour and air laboratories. The objective is to provide firsthand insights into the practical applications of the guidelines, offering a holistic learning experience.
In a proactive move, the workshop organizers are inviting attendees to share their experiences, pinpoint what works and what doesn't, propose improvements, and identify any gaps in the existing guide. All the valuable insights collected will be channelled towards a revised version of the publication slated for release in June 2024.
